Topic:

Project Managers have been told that fixed price is the only way to manage risk. Meanwhile, Agile experts tell us time & materials is the only humane option. However, in the real world we have customers who want to plan their costs and vendors want to protect their teams. We have lawyers and contract officers who tell us that a project’s scope is defined by the contract, and can never change.

In this interactive session, you will explore some guidelines for balancing flexibility and liability. There will be concrete examples from several case studies. Finally, participants will get a chance to flex their contracting muscles to suggest contracting arrangements for challenging situations.

If you are a project manager who has been told Scrum encourages scope creep and cost overruns, you will learn how to rebut the claim. If you’ve been chided by Agilists that “fixed-price is immoral”, you will learn how to craft counter-options. If you’ve been practicing Scrum, and contract issues get in the way of successful adoption, then this session is for you.
